The 14th Street Grill in Phenix City, AL...this is where it all started.  My grandparents were early entrepreneurs...they owned the 14th Street Grill in the 60s.  It is still an institution to this day.  They also had a restaurant in Hilliard, FL and my maternal grandfather and great grandfather had country stores in AL and FL for generations..

My earliest memories of my grandparents are watching them cook in the restaurants and grinding corn for grits.  My mother and grandmothers taught me a love of good food and how to prepare food from an early age.  I have been cooking since I was seven years old.  First thing I ever learned to make was sweet tea.  From scratch with loose tea.  I am famously known for my sweet tea now and my two year old granddaughter Laney Grace is addicted already.

From early on I learned to make biscuits, of course, Red Eye Gravy and the classic Tuna Noodle Casserole.

We always had a bountiful table at the holidays and even though we were poor, my mother always managed to make the little food we had deliciously.

Back to the 14th Street Grill...famous for their "Scrambled Dogs".  I have always wanted to have a food truck selling scrambled dogs.  Maybe someday...so the scrambled dog is a open-faced bun with cut up grilled hot dogs, chili, catsup, mustard, onions, cheese, coleslaw, oyster crackers and pickles and you eat it with a  spoon.  I posted some photos below and on my Etsy page I have the recipe for them as well as coleslaw and chili.

So hence the name "14th Street Vintage" to market my ventures in all things vintage.  Oh...my maternal grandmother also had a thrift shop.  Entrepreneurs in my family.

So my story...love of food, love of family, love of vintage.  Teacher, creative person, love of all things in the decorative arts (needlepoint, crewel, crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, quilting, crafts), culinary chef, foods teacher and business education teacher in the graphic arts.   Chef Internship at the Biltmore House in Ashville, NC.

All these gifts combine to make me the person I am today.  My hope is to continue my love of food and creative interests on my Etsy page and craft fairs and my blog in my retirement years.  Do what you know best and you are passionate about...

My webpage is a work in progress...will continually be updating and eventually you will be able to order from my webpage too.  In the meantime, check me out on:

The Scrambled Dog

A "Scrambled Dog" is just that, a scrambled dog.  Open-Faced Hot Dog Bun; Grilled Cut-Up Hot Dog; Chili; Coleslaw; Oyster Crackers; Catsup; Mustard; Onion; Pickles.  Meant to be eaten with a spoon.
Someday I hope to have a Scrambled Dog Food Truck.
